Forums go BOOM

Yeah, EVE’s new shiny went tits-up.

The problem was actually pretty severe, and provided a pretty big hole for people to use. At the core of the issue, the forums were essentially letting users inject HTML, Java, CSS, and maybe even more browser-read code into their signature blocks. Doing this, with a combination of some cookie editing, was able to let savvy internet-users post as anyone they wanted, including moderators, and to actual alter the way any thread on the forum looked.

I’m pretty sure that somewhere, it’s an important rule to not let the user screw with your product. Especially in live, shared environment.

Seems like it was a bad-weekend all around for the games I play this weekend, as LoL was facing bad lag and temperamental up-times itself. Oh well, it gave me time to do that yard-work.

Frustration Solution

What do you do when you’ve had a particularly frustrating play session in a game? Whether it’s a raid where no one seems to be able to coordinate and do their jobs, a dungeon run where players keep going AFK or disconnecting, a series of scenarios where you’re finding yourself without even a lick of heals the entire time, or a night of play filled with bugs and strange anomalous behavior. When you find yourself becoming exceptionally annoyed at your game of choice for the evening, how do you resolve your situation?

The rats have landed

As you should be well aware of by now, The Verminous Horde RvR pack arrived last Thursday, and we just had our first full weekend of play with the new toys it brought. Rats have been roaming the lakes left and right. As far as patches go, this one was implemented incredibly smoothly. No game-crashing bugs, or campaign-destroying issues were there, and downtime for it was relatively minor, especially when considering how much was added in. That’s not to say that there aren’t issues that need to be dealt with, and the importance of the various issues will vary from person to person. For instance, on some servers, it was discovered over the weekend that scenarios were obliterated into non-existence. And of course, in typical, and perfectly reasonable ( is my “/sarcasm” needed?) internet fashion everyone cried bloody murder in response.

To hold you over

I won’t be able to attend the PTS tonight, so last night, I did some quick poking around on the test server, running around the lake and getting a look at all the new toys we’re getting. Or, well, as many as I could. Nothing feels drastically different from the old map, everything you come across should be comfortable and easy to interact with. There are still a few graphical glitches that seem to be lingering (like the cast bar ghost after interacting with a siege weapon), but for the most part, if you use the stock UI, basic information should be right at your fingertips, telling you different things in a familiar manner. Follow the jump for some pictures and comments.

I’m weak

I resubscribed to Warhammer last night. Shooties goodness ensued. Game was crazy laggy in the city thanks to some bug with Chosen and their Auras, but otherwise ran great. 1s EE will take an entire shift in gameplay and spec to fully utilitize properly.

When’s the last time?

bsod-shirtI was thinking back on the problems the game had from the get-go. The crazy bugs that plagued us all, and caused serious problems in terms of playability. If you’re reading this, you probably suffered through them like I did, sure in the belief that Mythic would quickly fix the problems that beset us. I was surprised when I looked back and realized I can’t even remember the last time some of those things happened to me. So for a quick venture, read through this list, and try to think back the last time it actually happened to you. Read more of this post
