You want answers, you got answers

In case you missed it, there’s a Q&A thread going on at the official forums, where Andy is answering as much as he can about the new RvR Packs that are coming out. You post a question and Andy will answer it if able. There’s a lot he still can’t discuss, but some new info is coming out. I’m going to take the Herculean effort of posting all answered questions here, in one consolidated place. Keep in mind, there are (as of right now, this moment) eight (8) pages of this thread, sooooo… yeah. This’ll be fun!

Edit: Updated with Andy’s late-night answers. Gets some sleep man!

Alright then, how will Skaven be implemented? Will there be restrictions on who can play as one? If so, what are they? It was said that they wouldn’t be playable from level one as the current careers are. How will they be different then?

Andy wrote…

Carrie will touch on this in her Producer’s Letter next week, but I can tell you that they will not be a NPC “Third Realm” and they will have a direct effect on ORvR. More details will come over time

Agent_Dark_ wrote…

What exactly (or vaguely if you’d prefer…) will each of the 3 different rvr packs contain?

Andy wrote…

We’re not ready to go into specifics on this yet, however you can infer from the titles (power, progression and personality). For example, Personality will probably have more to do with cosmetic things.

TwistedComplex wrote…

Will the RvR pack add more dynamics to keep battles, rather than simply breaking down doors? If so can you go into details?

Andy wrote…

Yes. No.

Teraim wrote…

Are the Reknown Rank bonuses going to be reworked(rr65 +25 ap usw)?

Andy wrote…

We’re not yet prepared to go into specifics about the RR bonuses (specifically the bonuses).

Nobelbeast wrote…

Concerning the RVR packs 3 choices ” passion, progression, and power” the way it’s described it sounds like we will only be paying for the right to use items/ right to lvl to rr100. Could you set our minds and ease and pls tell us if there will be actual content sold with the packs and not just a “oh you bought the power pack so now you can use rr100 gear” kind of deal.

To clarify what i mean by what i define as content:

To pay for the right to do other stuff that was not orginally implemented ingame, like doing a instance or playing another race.

yes/no if you really cannot go into detail.

Andy wrote…

There is more than just items and the ability to progress to RR 100 included in the various packs.

Gorlios wrote…

You say you are taking a look at ORvR in the packs, do you plan to do anything with forts and keeps, and even BOs?

Edit: Most importantly forts in this question

Andy wrote…

I cannot go into specifics regarding each of those individual componants to ORVR, however I can state that some of the things you’re asking about will not be present in the same manner you’ve been used to for the previous 2 years.

Banana_Hammock wrote…

How will gear be reworked for the addition of twenty renown ranks? For example, Sovereign is really the ultimate as far as RvR goes(ransacking your opponents city and killing their King). Will Sovereign gear be upgradable and then gated by renown rank?

Andy wrote…

Carrie has already confirmed that there will be new (higher RR) armor sets introduced with the RvR Pack. The rest of your question we are not prepared to go into details about at this time.

Einherjerfalkenbach wrote…

Any details to the new skaven zone? i know ya said it will bew focused on rvr but i dont think this zone will be without npcs. are there mobs in this zone or just bo/keep guards?

will there be a RVR[DARKESS FALLS!!!]dungeon in this zone or is this zone a dungeon? ^^

Andy wrote…

The things I can say about the New Skaven themed RvR Area is that it is

  • RvR Focused
  • Building on what we’ve accomplished with the Redesigned City Siege
  • A part of the Tier 4 campaign and will not take away from it

Aside from that, more details will be coming.

Biro wrote…

Will you be opening up server transfers to allow those in non-prime-time timezones stuck on underpopulated servers to move off?

Andy wrote…

We’ve already discussed that we will be offering paid services such as server transfers in the future, along the same timeline as the RvR Pack.

Guerrier Vertueux wrote…

Is the new skaven zone for any specific level group or rr group?

Andy wrote…

We’re not yet prepared to discuss any other specifics of the new RvR Area.

GoldenTiger wrote…

I just wanted to say thanks for this thread.

I have a few questions.

1) First, will we see jewelry-type items to compare in quality/set type (for example, 4 gems/1 cloak set from ToVL vs. nothing in RVR currently) gained from RVR?

Andy wrote…

Not yet ready to discuss accessory items and how they will play into the RvR Pack Content

GoldenTiger wrote…

2) Second, will we see an extension of the Influence system that was introduced for oRVR in the past, but never was extended further? I feel it is a pretty solid system, but the rewards nowadays obviously pale in comparison for the most part to higher RR items or PVE-based gear.

Andy wrote…

At this point, this isn’t something we’re looking into.

GoldenTiger wrote…

3) Finally, will we see the trend of “offensive and defensive versions” continue for weapons/armor/sets in these RVR packs? Again, this is another change in newer content that I felt worked very well.

Andy wrote…

We’re generally pleased with how the designs for the new Sov sets/RvR weapons worked out, so I can see us continuing in this mindset.

Tellaria wrote…

With the redesign of ORVR, do you have any plans on getting players away from mindless mobs of the “Zerg” and having people focus more on organization with coordination and strategy?

Andy wrote…

Design decisions being made now are with the mindset of dispersing the zerg. How we’re accomplishing this, we’re not quite ready to discuss.

Tellaria wrote…

Do you have any plans with ORVR in lower tiers in encouraging players to learn their role in RVR instead of powerleveling their characters to 40 by grinding the highest xp mobs, resulting in blankslate, uneducated players ending up at lvl40rr10 with no clue how to perform in actual ORVR?

Andy wrote…

Changes to ORvR will be made across tiers 2-4. That being said, there will always be a segment of the population that will seek to powerlevel past formative levels. While we certainly don’t suggest this and will encourage players in every way possible to participate in lower tiers by making ORvR as lucrative as possible for leveling, there’s little we can do to completely stop this style of play.

Drathekk wrote…

will you be including epic world bosses in the new zone? something along the line of the dragons of daoc for example or the world boss in lotd. Open world boss fights would be much preferred to dungeon instances as then you can get more people into them (warband sized encounters perhaps) and have the danger of the opposing realm creeping in. Always wished there was something along these lines in game

Andy wrote…

We are not interested in adding more PVE encounters to the game with the new RvR Pack. Anything and everything we do will be focused on RvR. Remember, we’re iterating on the success of the new RvR City Siege, so any type of NPC encounter would be in that spirit.

Drathekk wrote…

Will the skaven be limited to one archetype (if playable) or will there be a variety of skills and abilities available for them?

Andy wrote…

We’re not ready to go into that level of detail regarding Skaven. I can say this: They won’t be boring.

Drathekk wrote…

with the redesign of Orvr being discussed is one of the options being the expanding of the orvr lakes. At this current time their small, chokepoint nature makes them often too zergy and really limits the ability of small roaming groups to contribute effectively.

Would there also be any chance of moving warcamps further away from keeps (take the south keep in KV by the destro warcamp or the north keep in reikland for example) The way these are currently designed the invading force has almost no chance of really picking off incoming defenders before they get there. Moving them further apart would create more of a niche for roaming groups to exist in this game.

Andy wrote…

At this time we do not plan on drastically adjusting the size or layout of the existing RvR Lakes.

Clangeddin86 wrote…

Will old PvE zones (the places in Tier 2/3/4 with Public quests) be incorporated in the new ORvR mechanics?

Andy wrote…

See the above answer.

Dekarr wrote…

Any new currencies? I’d hate to start all over for a brand new elite tier of scenario weapons.

Andy wrote…

As Nate has said in many Dev Q&A’s, we plan on expanding the current currency systems to offer more things for you to use to spend what you earn on. Whether or not we’ll be adding another tier onto the existing currency is something that we’re not prepared to discuss at this time.

Kriegstreiba wrote…

Will the new rvr mechanics requiere to buy a rvr-pack to play?

sry for my english :x

Andy wrote…

The changes to the ORvR Zones will be global and anyone will be able to participate, regardless of whether or not they’ve purchased the RvR Pack. However, certain aspects of the changes may only be available to those whom have purchased parts of or the entire RvR Pack.

Pelos wrote…

Has a basic pricing model for the rvr packs been determined?
Will there be a discount offered for purchasing all 3 packs?

Andy wrote…

Pricing is still under discussion and has not been set in stone.

The general sentiment is that yes, players purchasing all 3 parts of the RvR Pack will receive a discount.

Pelos wrote…?

terrorshard wrote…

Is it possible to make a set better than most of the sov sets that won’t sway the balance of power even more in favor of the high renown ranked players?

Andy wrote…

We’ve said this in the past, but we feel that making sets with easily obtained bonuses was probably not the best decision. Future sets will be desirable when compared to current armor sets such as Sov, however we’re aiming to encourage players to wear the entire set. Additionally, we’re trying to steer away from “boring” percentile bonuses or “push button, do moar dmg” type bonuses. We’re trying to devise bonuses that will be compelling, interesting and exciting.

Will there ever be a possibility of turning of the gain of experience as a part of new RVR pack? Alot russian players love t2-t3 segment and dont want to leave it.

Andy wrote…

We’re not too keen on a “XP” off feature as is implemented in DAOC as we feel it stagnates development. That being said, we’re investigating possible alternative solutions for folks that wish to remain in Tiers 2 and 3. We’re not yet ready to discuss these ideas

LoneNurgling wrote…

Will there be new Titles or Unlocks with this RvR pack?

Andy wrote…

Skaaa wrote…

With these packs have you evaluated or ‘looked into’ Siege weapons in general such as damage, or use?

Andy wrote…

Most certainly. We want for siege to play a much more important role in ORvR than it currently does.

Topology wrote…

Has Mythic given any consideration to the possibility of using this new Skaven RvR zone as a potential Tier 5, so that the higher RR players will have to fight each other instead of constantly rolling lowbies that don’t stand a chance?

Andy wrote…

No. The new Skaven RvR Area will not be T5.

We are investigating other possible solutions to group higher RR player in situations such as Scenarios, however ORvR will remain, as Nate called it in the last Vent Q&A, “The Wild West”.

firengrot wrote…

Hello,
You said you were going to sort of revamp the renow points system. Does the new system will still be based on buying caracteristic points like it is now or will we be able to buy more specials skills like resolute defense? if yes are those new skills be based on archetype?

Andy wrote…

As we’ve previously stated, we’re seeking to remove the restrictive nature of the current RA system and instead move to something that takes inspiration from the DAOC RA system. Yes we are considering more “active abilities” being part of this redesign, however we’re not quite prepared to discuss what those abilities will be. The one thing I can say about the abilities is that we intend for them to be compelling and unique, much like we want for the new armor set bonuses to be.

Pierun wrote…

Are new ORvR mechanics going to be similar to city sieges?

Andy wrote…

A lot of our design philosophy these days stems from the changes we made to the City Siege experience. We want to make the encounters active, exciting, RvR driven experiences. We want to move away from Waithammer and to make things over as painlessly as possible in the unfortunate event that you have no opposition (sadly, an unavoidable circumstance sometimes). In the sense that we want to build upon the success of the city, yes, they will be similar

Will there be an announcement on the herald summarising the info you’re willing to/have given out so far? It seems to be spread among so many forum posts/interview transcripts that there’s probably a fair few gaps in what people have found.

Andy wrote…

When we release an official announcement, replete with Press Release and all that Jazz, then yes, certainly there will be an appropriate post on the Herald.

Detharen wrote…

Will we see more defensive options added into the options we can spend our renown points on? Options such as -crit, Hp/4, and the armor increasing renown functioning properly would be nice. (Note the armor increase currently offers 3/6/9% non stacking whereas everything else that costs 5/10/15 stacks. Thirty points spend in +armor nets you only a 9% increase as opposed to 18%, whereas 30 points in block stacks to give you 2+4+6 for a total of 12%.)

Andy wrote…

Please see earlier answer concerning RA redesign

Detharen wrote…

Second question, can we expect some attention given to class polish in this patch? For instance, while the black orc mastery trees Brawler and Toughest are generally well regarded the boss tree is very lackluster. This plus several of our more useless tactics could use some polish. Is this something we could look forward to in the next patch?

Andy wrote…

Right now we have specific features that we are focusing on for the RvR pack. Whether or not specific Careers will be receiving balance in the RvR pack is not yet finalized.

Detharen wrote…

Third question, will mastery trees be extended in 1.4 with new abilities or are only renown bonuses being adjusted?

Andy wrote…

Currently, we do not plan on adding any new Career Mastery Path Abilities.

Kwup wrote…

Good morning.

I’m translating some questions from a french board, from various members. Sorry for the quantity of these, most are not mine.

1 – Can we expect other races coming with Skavens, such as Wood elves or vampire counts? (Kuwento)

Andy wrote…

Not with this RvR pack

Kwup wrote…

2 – Will skaven be playable as monster play (LOTRO), Death knights (WoW), or Minotaurs (DAOC) ? (Ulgen)

Andy wrote…

See earlier answers concerning more details about Skaven.

Kwup wrote…

3 – You said RR trees will be redone. Will it be totaly new, or somilar to DAOC’s system? (Ulgen)

Andy wrote…

Again, see earlier answers.

Kwup wrote…

4 – If I have already a RR80 caracter, I actually gain renow. Does this renow earned “virtually” will be used for the next 20 ranks? Or is it lost? (Amygaia)

Andy wrote…

Renown gained now will not be applied retroactively.

Kwup wrote…

5 – We have been promised to be able to play both factions on the last remaining french server. What about it, knowing that russian server seems to aim this way? (Jikolpmu)

Andy wrote…

We are not yet prepared to make an announcement concerning this.

Kwup wrote…

My own questions :

6 – can we expect, us TOK lovers, some new unlocks, titles, or maybe tactics and such?

Andy wrote…

Not something we’re prepared to discuss in detail, although I would assume so since the ToK is such an important part of the game.

Kwup wrote…

7 – do you plan to add new scenarios with the RvR pack / 1.4 ?

Andy wrote…

Kwup wrote…

8 – Does all parts of the pack will be avaible at the same time? Or will we have to wait weeks/month between each of them?

Andy wrote…

AFAIK the intent is to release them all at the same time. That is subject to change

Kwup wrote…

9 – You said you’re aiming to propose this kind of packs in the futur with a faster pace. can we expect a “RvR pack” every 6 month? years? (please no “player decide”, or we will all say we want one every month).

Andy wrote…

In a purely hypothetical situation, I wouldn’t say that every 6-8 months is out of the question.

2) In the previuos interviews, we have heard that you are watching the ftp games to as a useful system from which reaching some ideas. Many players asking themself why Mythic has not used the DaoC system of sieges and many would want it made that it.
In the new RvR pack, do you have taken ideas from the DaoC sieges way?

Andy said…

We’re taking lessons learned and a lot of inspiration from our experience with Camelot, however it is important to note that WAR will always retain it’s identity as a seperate, unique game that is not Camelot. WAR will never be an exact mirror of DAoC.

Do you feel excited about the RVR that they are creating, Does it make you feel like it will be a better WAR experience for players? And are the 3 of these packs going to be released at the same time or one at a time?

Andy wrote…

As a player I’m extremely excited by the changes. The development team has been showing me some of the early work they’ve been doing and it looks, to me, much more compelling than the current system.

Ravonous wrote…

And please just tell me I have time to hit 80 before this comes out, I really would like to have some time to enjoy the sov gear before it becomes obselete!

Andy wrote…

Sov gear will not be made immediately obsolete by any means. Remember, we’re working dillegently to slow the campaign down, so gear progression at the high end will most likely be slowed drastically as well.

Ravonous wrote…

I doubt any of these can be answered. At the very least since you have seen what they are doing, do you feel like it is a step in the right direction?

Andy wrote…

Absolutely.

Ravonous wrote…

If there is going to be a RR100, Will there be more ways to gain reknwon then just Bos, Scs, And player kills? Someone said it and I agree that their should be quests that give reknown as well considering the loftyness of getting to 80 being 550k and we can only speculate that 81 can be 575k, leading to a million on the 100 spectrum. Please don’t be a North korean grind. KK thanks.

Andy wrote…

At this point, I don’t know that we’re adding any new means of gaining renown points. But the devs could very well prove me wrong and introduce alternate methods such as quests or something along those lines.

Will the orvr redesign feature an unlocking of zones so u can fight in any zone u want more like the daoc system? Meaning can u wage war in black crag, tm, and kv all at the same time? Hurika wrote…

Crin wrote…

Slight revamp of questions I posted on Gaar’s blog-
–My understanding is that the packs are definitely maybe coming by the end of the year, but at the same time there seem to be a number of key aspects which aren’t sufficiently finalized that you’re willing to comment publicly on them yet. Can you give us a timeline (even a rough one) for the rest of the year on when and how we’ll be hearing about the rest of the pack details, offering feedback, and testing it? (for instance- we’ll know the full details of initial plans by end of September, feedback via forums starting in October, and testing on PTS starting November?)

Andy wrote…

Yes, the timeline is we’ll discuss details as soon as we’re ready to. Testing will be announced well in advance, and there will be a significant amount of testing.

Crin wrote…

- Will the players have the opportunity to provide input on the RVR packs in a similar fashion to what was done on the Sovereign revamp?

Andy wrote…

Absolutely. Player feedback is a very important part of our development process and we will be certain to iterate as we have been doing with the Sov changes and the City Siege changes.

Crin wrote…

– Have you considered implementing in-game surveys to reach a broader section of the playerbase

Andy wrote…

We’ve considered it, and from time to time we do, however, generally speaking, they rarely get filled out.

Crin wrote…

- To what extent is the pack aimed at < rr80 players, vs players with 1+ rr80 toons?

Andy wrote…

The RvR pack is mostly aimed at our current playerbase, regardless of the RR. There will certainly be goodies for new players and returning players will find a lot of it very rewarding, however I personally believe that the folks who have stuck with WAR through thick and thin will find there’s a lot of features and cool improvements that will enhance the game.

Crin wrote…

- How is Mythic approaching the balance issue- will I need to buy the power or progression packs to remain competitive? What possible issues will the personality pack have on the economy (e.g. dye AH values)?- As part of the overall shift from a “at launch” PVP/PVE mix to a purer PVP focus, is there any chance the RVR packs will address the discrepancies in desirability between end-game PVE and PVP sets (e.g. Darkpromise/Tyrant vs Invader/Warlord for BW/Sorc), either through revamps of the lower sets or implementing token systems for the dungeons?- Do the RVR packs correspond to patch 1.4? Should we expect any 1.3.X patches before 1.4 and/or the RVR pack, and if so what is their estimated schedule and focus?

Andy wrote…

Everything about the RvR Pack has a RvR Focus, so there’s no risk of new PVE sets making an impact. There will certainly be strong incentive to purchase the RvR Pack, all three parts of it, however the intent is not to make it so overwhelming, especially in the lower tiers, that someone who choses note to immediately make a purchase will be “left in the dust”. That being said, for higher RR players, the RvR packs will be very desirable.

Per Carrie, we do not plan any futher Game Updates in the 1.3 development cycle.

Crin wrote…

- Last is a suggestion- can you put up a sticky post in the forums (and link to it on the Herald) that links to the various interviews which have been released, and gets updated as more information and media is released.

Andy wrote…

It’s a good suggestion and one we will consider.

moppington wrote…

Is this RVR pack considered a vertical expansion then? One of the original distinguishing features of war was that it would be a horizontally expanding game instead of a vertically expanding game like so many other mmo’s. Is the vertical expansion to RR 100 already set in stone?

Andy wrote…

This isn’t considered an expansion at all. This is considered an RvR Pack.

Yes, RR 100 is a definite feature. At the same time, we will be building upon the current world and not siphoning everyone off to some new landmass that will leave the current campaign “left behind” so to speak.

MorkSezStop wrote…

At this point, nothing major when it comes to something like the secondary stat proposal.

Saintsblessing wrote…

All I can say in regards to how the zones lock is that it is being simplified.

Myndstab wrote…

3a-Will Zone locks still be required in order to progress towards the city/forts, or will it be based on “keep” control ala DAOC?

Not going into that level of detail regarding the changes yet.

Myndstab wrote…

7-With Orvr, is there going to be a “relic” or some sort introduced which supports the realm as a whole?(ala daoc)

Andy wrote…

While we like the idea of Relics, it goes counter to our current philosophy of not introducing anything in the campaign that makes the strong side stronger. The challenge we face with implementing a “Relic” system is finding a way to introduce them without overpowering one side over the other.

Are there any plans to increase the level cap? I think it would help separate tier 5 players better to reduce power gap…

Andy wrote…

At this point, we’re not interested in increasing the Rank Cap.

Ravonous wrote…

Are these packs going to be 5 dollars each?

Andy wrote…

We’ve not yet announced pricing.

Thanks for the thread Andy, I have one question and one only that keeps me awake at night;

Will the Black Orc be the size of an enraged Choppa by the time this RvR pack comes out? If not, have MYTHIC begun to put serious consideration in to this community request so that we are in accordance with the lore? (Get what I did there? :P)

Andy wrote…

I’ve been trying to convince the Art/Production team to do this for over a year now. I’ll keep hammering away at them.

gho5t0ps wrote…

can SW get a Cloak ability that if we stand still or something

Andy wrote…

I’m gonna go out on a limb and say that the chances of Shadow Warrior’s getting stealth of any type are slim.

Okay, up-to-date as of August 30th, 2010, at 9:55 AM EST. Also, if anyone ever says that Mythic does a poor job of communicating, tell them to take a look here and then cut out their tongue for speaking lies, and then buy me a new “C” and “V” key, mine may be worn out.

Andy Belford wrote… (okay, that’s just confusing)
1.will there be any live-events introducing these packs?
2.will the packs be purchasable in DVD/CD or pre-paid card form?
3.will the skaven be playable in any way?

Andy Belfor wrote…

1. I don’t have an answer for that.
2. All of the details for how the RvR Pack will be purchased are not hashed out yet, however we can say with confidence that it will be available via downloadable purchase.

Istherion wrote…
We can expect that the price of all 3 packs combined to be less expensive than a regular expansion usually costs right?

Andy Belford wrote…

I would say that’s a reasonable expectation.

Clangeddin86 wrote…
1) Are there any plans to increase the level cap?

Andy Belford wrote…

Not at this time

3) What will the item rank range of new equipment be? Currently max item rank is 65, will it be somewhere between 70-80 or beyond that?

We’re not yet ready to discuss iLevels of new items.

4) Will there be new and better equipment for low RR people?

There is discussion about improvements to lower Rank items, however the extent of this is not determined.

5) Are there plans to look at the progression and rewards of old PvE content such as PQs, Lairs and Bastion Stairs?

Not at this time.

Toruma wrote…
Will these RvR packs be needed to continue playing the game?

Andy Belford wrote…

Needed? No, players who do not purchase it will still be able to play the game. Will you want to purchase it? I belive so.

Sergionator wrote…
We will have to buy the same RvR Pack 2 times if we want to play it with another account ?

Andy Belford wrote…

Most likely Each RvR Pack would apply to one account only.

Devathor wrote…
Now for the new content, where is the new skaven RVR zone located on the world map?

Andy Belford wrote…

On the world map?…

Weenus Tenderoni wrote…
1: Will there be any focus in the RVR Packs on fixing some long standing issues such as the UI lag and bugs (like crafting components becoming locked as in-use when they are not, the Siege weapon’s buggy UI, HP bars lag, etc) or mapping exploits such as bypassing the outer door at Stoneclaw in High Pass?

Andy Belford wrote…

Bug fixing is a constant part of the development cycle and will continue as normal.

3: The Recruit-a-Friend system seems to be a huge success when judging the amount of players on the battlefield with the 3-friend Rewarded Mounts. Will we see an expansion to the Recruit-a-Friend system or rewards with the RVR Pack?

No plans to expand the recruit a friend feature at this time.

4: Will server transfers be made available leading into or after the release of the packs?

We’re not yet ready to give a timeline on this potential paid service.

Lastly, I just wanted clarification on someone else’s question from earlier. You had answered a multiple choice question with a “no” answer. Could you elaborate…

Elog wrote…

Will there be one zone (zone defined as for example Black Crag) or something similar to a complete new pairing in the RvR pack (pairing defined as for example Kadrin Valley, Thunder Mountain and Black Crag together)

No

No

Calana wrote…
Are we to expect any further pve items that totally diminish the need to have any real ability in orvr?

(undefendable talismans, on top of every other absorb shield you can think of)

Andy Belford wrote…

Please see previous statements that we are not adding new PVE focused content to the RvR pack.

Shuguard wrote…
very nice job Andy for doing all these questions but of course here is mine
1. With the renown changes, can we please include a function allowing us to change individual points instead of starting from scratch and spend 5-8 gold instead we could spend 1-3 gold.
For example say i have 3 points into melee crit and i want to change it into block %.
Then make an option to right click the points in melee crit and then left click it to block%
finally include a save changes button/train/retrain.

Andy Belford wrote…

We’re not considering reworking the Respec functionality. That being said, please see my earlier comments regarding the RA revamp.

Posting all questions from multiple family members with toons in same thread so it is easier for us to find them when you answer:

Will you be incorporating the concept of “relics” (or something similar) with the inclusion of the skaven (such as warpstone hoards)? (ME)

Andy Belford wrote…

Please see earlier comments regarding relics.

Will “winning” Orvr provide “bonuses” that extend beyond Orvr (ala DAOC)? (wife)

Please see earlier comments regarding not wanting to make the strong stronger.

What amount of time are you shooting for (rough terms is fine) for a post 1.4 keep take to last by keep level?  (kids with curfew LOL or just one of the kids).

The intent is to make ORvR a more immersive experience than “omghitmoardoorz”. That being said, it will probably take longer it currently does to take a keep…undefended or not.

What steps are being taken to make Orvr compelling during low population and off peak times with 1.4? (Nephew in military).

Not yet ready to discuss details of how the system will work.

Will you be including a “Blood Bowl” type scenerio in time for the NFL playoffs?  (Hey, I have kids.  Kids have BIG imaginations especially this one).

That would potentially rock…although the Murderball event in the lakes will be making it’s return this year with the Daemon Moon Rising Live Event.

Aurilian wrote…
Ok two questions:

With the changes to the renown point spending will you be giving everyone a free respec come patch day?

Andy Belford wrote…

I would imagine so.

If I’m in the Amazon Rainforest floating down a river in a canoe with a 10kg block of ice with a monkey frozen inside, and it takes 3.4 hours to get from one end of the river to the other, how many gorillas would it take to carry a bear to Oslo?

Will the RvR Pack bring any new methods to complement AAO? (In the sense to help bridge the population gap on servers with an imbalance?)

Andy Belford wrote…

We will continue to build upon the success of systems like AAO.

Rancidmilk wrote…
Ok… when will you guys release some concept art for this thing? :P (I assume you hate me)

Andy Belford wrote…

We already have and they can be found at several gaming news sites…but since you’re my special snowflake Rancid…

2010.09.01: Oh God, more updates!

Someone wrote…

1. Will future sets follow the 8 piece format or continue to take more slots.

Andy Belford wrote…

Most likely no, although that is not yet finalized

2. Will new potions and tails be introduced

We’re not yet prepared to discuss potential crafting changes

3. Will this introduce 2 new tiers of Sc weapons if so will be able to convert existing stockpiles of royal insignias into the new tiers.

New items to be earned through RvR will be introduced. We do not currently have, nor do we plan to introduce, a system to upconvert Tier 4 currency.

4. With the sub rr 80s getting an easier time to reach 80 is their going to be something to reward preexisting 80s on release even if its just a couple of days of bonus renown for them.

We regularly have bonus Renown/Experience weekend with the launch of a new version.

5. Will the culmination of the end game still be the capital even for RR 100 players or will their be another end game goal other than the siege.

Cities are currently set to remain the culmination of the Tier 4 campaign.

Dekarr wrote…

Why do you guys want to slow the campaign down?
(I can understand slowing the gear progression down)

Andy Belford wrote…

City Sieges happen too quickly, ORvR progresses too fast. We wish to slow this down to provide a more engaging and immersive ORvR experience.

lifeisdeath wrote…

With these rvr packs, will we be able to make some kind of income if we only do rvr? As it is now leveling through T1 – T4 rvr only, I can barely make enough money to keep going to all of the different zones. In fact, I often have to get a loan from my high RR guy.

Andy Belford wrote…

This is going to be a vague answer:

There are things slated to be introduced in the RvR pack which are designed to have a secondary effect of improving the in game economy and giving those who like to play the market something to do.

Sanyarin wrote…

Hi Andy
thanks from my side for the effort of doing the Q&A
here are some questions:

1. Regarding the “Personality-Pack”:
Will the armor redesign you guys were talking about some time ago make its appearance in this pack or did you abandon this project for the time beeing?

At this time there are no plans to change the art files of the existing armor sets.

2. There was I question about housing, I understand that housing is probably not really fitting for War but might there be something else planned for guilds, like the guild hall in Sigmars Hammer (which is not accessible to all guild members). Something like a great hall for general guild use (role playing wise)?

Most likely no, at least not in the RvR Pack.

MorkSezStop wrote…

Can we expect at RvR packs to see dps of the weapons for magic DD and healers to be added to spells and heals (is that idea totaly left out or it can be done at some time?)

Andy Belford wrote…

This specific change is not planned to be introduced at this time.

Cial wrote…

Coinciding with the renown ability system changes – will we be seeing any form of “dual specialization” for either renown or career abilities? Maybe a onetime fee of 1000 gold for the option to have a second specialization that can be changed when not in combat? This would be extremely handy for people who are constantly re-speccing for pve etc.

Andy Belford wrote…

Good idea, however not planned at this time AFAIK.

Borsius wrote…

Do you plan to add server overlapping scenarios? With some balance considerations? (3-5 Healers/Tanks/DDs per Side (in case of random groups), both side got around the same RR and so on)

Andy Belford wrote…

We are very interested in a cross server Scenario queue, however that feature isn’t planned for the RvR Pack. We will be investigating other matchmaking possibilities, however nothing we can comment on at this time.

Do you have any plans about a arena or duelling system?

Not at this time

I assume there will be a PVE Pack after the PVP Pack. Do we have to wait around another year till we get new PVE content(hopefulle not with 5 Bugs a boss!!!)?

I wouldn’t assume that. We’re not interested in adding anything to the game that doesn’t have a strong RvR focus.

Ravai wrote…

You mentioned earlier renown ranking from 81-100 wont be easy, are you basing this on a hardcore style of play or the casual gamer? for example if you look at dark age of camelot only 5 or so players have ever reached realm rank 13, i would like to think 90-100 would follow a similar pattern such as rank 12-13 in dark age of camelot.

Andy Belford wrote…

The intent is to make this an acheivement, something significant, however not something unattainable.

Birth wrote…

Will our shiney supreme wards ever be put to use?

Jouvi wrote…

Are you planing with the new rvr packs to add new mounts maybe flying?

Andy Belford wrote…

We like mounts…

Luthaer wrote…

On page 2 or 3 you talk about intentionally slowing down the campaign. What do you mean by campaign? Player progression through the ranks/gear? The number of times a city siege happens each day? How long it takes to lock a zone?

Andy Belford wrote…

Not neccessarily, Yes, Yes.

linistora wrote…

are there going to be any new pets added in?

Other than that…

We like pets…

Grattas wrote…

With the removal or change(a little confused as the producers letter say “as you know it” and a podcast I believe that Carrie said they were removing it) of the VP system, will you be implementing cross server scenarios?

Andy Belford wrote…

No to cross server Scenarios.

The term “Victory Points” is something that is IP specific to Warhammer Fantasy. That is why we stated “as you know it” as the term itself will probably be repurposed to mean something completely different than what it represents now.

Ammonsul wrote…

Do you know the way to San Jose?  I’ve been away so long.

Andy Belford wrote…

RookFrjosa wrote…

Will the release date(s) be the same internationally?

That hasn’t been determined as of yet.

Will the player testing be the same as how we use PTS currently?

We will be fully testing all features of the new RvR Pack with player testing just as we do with all features.

There are a few nuggets in there, which I hadn’t seen before. Like a RvR pack is required for 81 -100. Also the thing on siege weapons. Bar rams/oil they are a none event.

    • shadowwar says:

Yeah, there was a thread with Michael Wyatt posting, where he talked about his vision for them. He said something along the lines of “If a giant cannon is pointed at your head, you should want to run away. Very fast.” So, hopefully that means stupid damage potential from them. Carrie also said in an interview that they want siege weapons to be something that gets focused, where groups are calling them out to get taken out as a priority.

It will be good to see them be impactful.
